Discussing mitochondrial myopathies

Jennifer

error of mitochondrial energy metabolism ( yeah, I copied this from a ltr)

My son goes to a Genetics Clinic ( at CHLA) for an inborn error of mitochondrial energy metabolism. Clinical manifestations in Zach, include autism, cyclic vomiting, complex regional pain syndrome and rhabdomyolysis. Mitochondrial disorders decrease the ability to produce energy in adequate amounts, and typically involve those tissues with the highest energy demands Number one helpful fact for us.......Patients with mitochondrial disease often are sensitive to fasting. I mean three hours without some carbs was tragic for him, for us!

Nice to meet you Susan! I actually take my son to see Dr. Boles and his clinic is a member here on this network. I am sorry to hear about your health challenges. It's so hard to get news about another issue. I found getting mt DNA dysfunction seems to come with some answers at least. Keep in touch this is year this blog will offically launch!

Hi, I am new here, but I just came across some information. Ther is a research study starting at the children's hospital in LA. It will be looking at the link between Mitochondrial DNA and CRSP/RSD. Just thought you know. The lead doctor's name is Dr Boles. I read it in the RSDSA's REVIEW WINTER 2007, vol.20, issue 1. To read it on line you can go to RSDSA.ORG.

I have had RSD for 4 years now and many other health challanges, including the cyclic vomiting, low energy, narcolepsy, dibetic, and others. One of my many doctors just dx me with Mitochondrial DNA errors that can contribute to many of the symptoms that I have been batteling for many years. My CoQ10 level was 1/10 the normal level, along with other challenges with my blood work. We are currently trying to get everything back to normal.

There is also a Douglas Wallace that has done a lot of research into mtDNA dysfunctions. He is at Emery University School of Medicine. I just found this all out last night. and found your site today. Thank both of you for sharing!
